Trains at Perth's transportation system
The train system in Perth is quite simple. It is like one big crossroad with the center of the city right at the middle. There are four main train lines One track, which is the one metropolitan train service from Fremantle to Perth, runs southwest of the city at Fremantle to northeast at Midland (this services all towns to the north of the river: Claremont, Shenton Park, etc), while the other train line goes south east at Armadale to north west at Joondalup to ensure that the transport system spans wide enough to be accessible by the majority of the Perth populace.
Perth Central suburban train station is located on Wellington, right across the road from Forrest Place and is accessible via an overhead walkway that joins to Forrest Chase.
The Wellington Street bus station is only 200m down the road from the train station and is linked via a walkway as well. All suburban trains pass or leave through the Perth central train station, rains run regularly and service is every fifteen minutes. Tickets can be purchased on the platforms from ticket machines that take coins only.
These machines will calculate the fare for you and dispense change. You can also purchase multi-riders which are good for either ten or forty trips throughout either one or two zones.
The transport system is synchronized so that it is possible to make connections between buses and trains to reach your destination. The suburban trains called Fasttrack, are electric and are quiet, clean, safe and fast (top speed is 110kph). Train services start at 5:30 in the morning and stops at 11:30 at night on weekdays.
Trains, like the buses, have reduced service during weekends and public holidays but there are special late night trains available during the weekends.
