THE WEATHER |
 |
Perth has a pleasant Mediterranean weather and climate. Winters are mild, mostly cool (it is about as warm on a sunny day in Perth as a normal summer s day in England) and rainy. Long, dry, hot summers feature a regular as clockwork afternoon sea breeze which keeps you from over heating and fills sails and kite surfing foils. The weather in Perth is just the thing for sun lovers, beach bums, pretty much anyone who loves the outdoors: warm enough for play but at the same time cool enough for comfort. The majority of leisure activities in Perth have to do with water due mainly to these long hot summers so if you enjoy swimming, surfing or all other manner of water sports or even just sunning yourself on crisp sandy beaches, then Perth is the perfect place to go to for your next vacation. When packing up for your trip it is a good idea to keep in mind that while you can always take off excess clothing if you find the weather too hot for your taste, you can t put them on if you don t have them with you.
There is plenty of warm weather during the months leading up to and following the summer months but summer in Perth officially begins in December and finishes in March. The temperatures during summers are modified due to the close distance of the City of Perth to the sea and the afternoon sea breeze known as the Fremantle Doctor. January and February are the hottest months with temperatures often reaching the mid high to high 30 s Celsius (95-100Fahrenheit). The weather occasionally reaches 38 degrees Celsius or more (110+ Fahrenheit). These days are referred to colloquially as a scorcher.
Autumn starts in March and finishes in May During autumn, the weather is still usually warm although cooler than the summer months. There is still plenty of sunshine left before the winter starts, the season almost seem like late summer rather than autumn.
The mild winters in Perth runs from the beginning of June through the end of September. Typically, a winter day may fall between 16 to 18 degrees Celsius (60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit) and can be quite wet. Winter is generally a rainy season with a lot of chilly but sunny days. It does not snow in Perth, and frost is a very rare occurrence. Also, occasionally there are storms with heavy downpours of rain as well as thunder and lightning.
Septembers in Perth herald the start of Spring season which quickly warms to fine sunny conditions. From this point, the temperatures will begin to rise and lead up to the next summer season.
